WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team returned home tonight to face Maine at Fort Kent in a non-conference showdown at the Rinker Athletic Campus. The Sailfish honored 11 seniors prior to the game, where they went deep into their bench with big Sunshine State Conference games ahead. PBA fell in the match 2-0 to move their record to 7-5-1 on the season.
The Sailfish looked dangerous early on in the game as they peppered the Bengals with shots and corners but were unable to break through. PBA outshot the Bengals 9-4 in the first half, but it was the visitors who got on the scoreboard first as they broke on a counterattack and a ball across the box was put past PBA's goalie
Tim Kuhl. A 'Fish turnover was capitalized on in the 37th minute as UMFK scored for the second time and led 2-0 at the half.Â
PBA came out strong in the second half and kept their energy high as they controlled over 60 percent of the possession in the match. They outshot the Bengals 16-8 on the night and had seven shots on goal but they were unable to score. The Sailfish extended their scoreless streak to three-straight matches.
The week ahead is huge for the future of the Sailfish, as they host Eckerd on Tuesday night followed by Nova Southeastern on Thursday night at the RAC. With two wins, the Sailfish can guarantee a trip to the SSC Tournament.Â
