Men's Soccer Falls at No. 9 Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team traveled to face No. 9-ranked Florida Tech on Saturday.

There was a five-way tie for second place in the Sunshine State Conference standings entering today, including the Sailfish and Florida Tech (6-0-5). An early goal and two yellow cards resulting in an ejection put PBA (7-3-1) in a hole early. The Panthers took advantage of the man-up advantage, winning 3-0.

Today marked Florida Tech's first win over PBA since 2012.

After an early attempt from PBA's Yannick Toth was saved, the Panthers got their first goal of the match just before the 15-minute mark. PBA attempted to clear the ball off its backline, but the clear attempt connected square off the chest of a Panther attacker and deflected back into the goal to give FT a 1-0 lead.

The Sailfish attempted to answer on a corner kick before halftime. Fred Ferreira's ball sent in found Harry Gardner, but his shot was saved.

10 minutes into the second half, the game shifted after Orion McHugh received his second yellow card of the night, resulting in PBA having to play 35 minutes with 10 men. Nearly five minutes later, Florida Tech scored a goal to take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers added another goal at the 78-minute mark to take a 3-0 lead.

The Sailfish totaled six shots in the game with two on target. Florida Tech took advantage of its man-up advantage with 23 shots, but just six were on goal.

PBA looks to regroup against Palm Beach County rival Lynn on Wednesday. The match in Boca Raton, Fla. takes place at 6 p.m.
