Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team started the new season with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Maryville Friday night.
The game went scoreless through 90 minutes. It was in the second extra time period where the Sailfish struck gold. Midfielder Michaela Boyd showed precision with a pass that found Alicia Drott in front of the net. A bicycle kick from Drott found the back of the net for a dramatic finish.
During the first half of the game, the Maryville Saints outshot the Sailfish 7-1. At the 39 minute mark, the Saints failed to capitalize on a penalty kick in the first half. The Saints had another opportunity with a free-kick from Lexi Gentry with 12 minutes left in the half. A diving save from PBA goalie Rachel Neumann kept the game at 0-0.
The Sailfish saw some stellar play from Neumann. Neumann who made her first career start for the Sailfish and recorded 6 saves.
In the second half, both teams struggled to score. Maryville goalie Katie Nash recorded four saves for the Saints. The Sailfish started generating more offense in the second half taking seven shots.
The dramatic win starts the Sailfish off with a 1-0 record. PBA is on the road next when it take on SSC opponent Nova Southeastern in nonconference match on Wednesday, Sept. 8th.
