WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team had its game tonight against Fort Lauderdale canceled after failing to get past the 70th-minute mark due to multiple delays. The Sailfish led 6-0 in the 56th minute when the game was called by the officials.
After a nearly thirty-minute weather delay, the No. 4 ranked Sailfish kicked off against the Eagles. It was an opportunity for the Sailfish to go deep into their bench during the contest as they rested usual starters, but it was
Fred Ferreira who reclaimed the team scoring lead when he broke through for the Sailfish quickly as he earned and converted a penalty in the seventh minute to put PBA up 1-0. It was one-way traffic as 16 Sailfish saw game action and combined to create chance after chance.
Bicho Barquin doubled the lead in the 15th minute and
Santy Winokur scored in the 28th minute to make it 3-0. PBA outshot the Eagles 21-0 in the opening half and controlled over 70 percent possession.
Twan Nieboer made the score 4-0 as the two teams went into the half.Â
The Sailfish looked to be on their way as
Harrison Ardron scored in the opening minutes of the second half and Winokur scored his second of the game in the 50th minute. Unfortunately for PBA, after the goal to put them up 6-0, there was a second weather delay. The game was called by the officials after it was unable to restart and was officially canceled because it failed to reach the 70th minute to make it an official game.
The Sailfish will return back to conference play this Saturday when they host Saint Leo. The Lions are 1-5-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in SSC pay while PBA remains 4-0 on the year.
