WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse team traveled face No. 9-ranked Rollins on Saturday.
A quiet first half hurt the Sailfish, but PBA (1-5, 1-5 SSC) fought hard in the second half, outscoring the Tars 5-3 in the second period. It was not enough to complete a comeback though as the 'Fish fell to Rollins (5-1, 5-1 SSC), 14-8.
Kiki Cinotti led the PBA attack with three goals and an assist while tying for a team-high three ground balls.
Chelsea Smith and
Grace Bartlinski followed with a pair of goals each.
Lindsey Heffler also found the back of the net in the contest.
Arianna Soffos tied Cinotti with three ground balls of her own with one caused turnover.
PBA got off to a slow start as the Tars got out to an early 5-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of play. A Bartlinski goal put and end to the run, but Rollins extended its lead with a 6-1 run to end the half, making it an 11-3 lead at the break.
After Rollins started the second half with a goal, PBA tried to regroup with goals by Cinotti and Smith cutting into the deficit, making it 12-5. The Tars answered with a pair of goals to eliminate any drama down the stretch. The 'Fish did end the game on a 3-0 run with goals from Cinotti, Heffler, and Bartlinski while holding RC scoreless in the final 15 minutes. Unfortunately for the 'Fish it was too little too late as they lost 14-8.
Abigal Nehring led PBA with 10 saves in the second half. Rollins outshot PBA, 35-17, and held an advantage in draw controls, 14-9. PBA's success on clear attempts improved dramatically in the second half, succeeding on 11-15 attempts after barely succeeding over 50 percent of its attempts in the first half.
The Sailfish return home for their match against Lynn on Tuesday. The match at the Rinker Athletic Campus is scheduled for 7 p.m.
