WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team hosted No. 2-ranked Barry at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center on Wednesday. The Sailfish tried to put the Bucs on upset alert, but they dropped the match, 7-0.
Barry got ahead early in the match in doubles play. PBA's
Quinty Janssen and
Elvira Edstrom dropped their match at No. 1 singles, 6-0.
Rebecca Keijzerwaard and
Marie Bertran de Balanda lost their match at No. 2 singles to Jil Engelmann and Julie Razafindranaly, 6-1, clinching the doubles point for the Bucs.
Verena Weindl and
Madison Bezner competed well at No. 3 doubles, but lost their match 6-3.
PBA fell behind 2-0 after Janssen dropped her match at No. 2 singles to No. 5-ranked Engelmann, 6-2, 6-1. Edstron came up short at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3, which put the Bucs ahead, 3-0. Bertran de Balanda dropped her match to No. 41-ranked Razafindranaly, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for Barry.
Anabelle Robichaud lost her match at No. 5 singles to No. 47-ranked Daniela Farfan, 6-1, 6-2. Bezner fell to Madeline Bosnjak at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-2. Lastly, Keijzerwaard fought hard at No. 1 singles, but she fell short, 6-4, 6-1.
PBA is scheduled to host No. 9 Saint Leo on Saturday. The match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center takes place at 2 p.m.
