WINTER PARK Fla, - The No.16 Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team had its six-game winning streak snapped by Rollins 3-0. The Fish' (7-2, 4-1 SSC) suffered their first conference loss of the season Saturday night.
The Tars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. One minute and 52 seconds into the game RC's Vilja Aaltonen received a cross in front of the net. She found the bottom left of the goal with her right foot to bring the score to 1-0.
The Tars outshot the Sailfish in the first half 7-0. PBA struggled to generate offensive opportunities the whole game. The Fish' only recorded two shots in the match with zero shots on goal. PBA goalkeeper
Madison Chiola made her third start of the season. She recorded three saves including a diving save in the sixteenth minute.
Rollins tacked on another goal in the 75th minute off a free-kick opportunity. The Tars free-kick bounced off the left corner of the crossbar, the ball bounced towards RC's Sophia Olore. Olore's header from point-blank built the Tars lead to 2-0.
PBA tried to make the most of sparse opportunities. In the 67th minute,
Halie Reznik made a run deep into the box. Swarmed by Tars, her shot was blocked. PBA also had a corner kick opportunity in the 68th minute.
Maddie McCarty launched the ball near the box but the Tars defense prevented any PBA scores.
Rollins added one more goal in the 87th minute, which capped the game at 3-0.
For the Sailfish, this is the first time they've lost a match in over a month. PBA looks to get back on track against Lynn on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
