WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team struggled against Embry-Riddle for the second time this season tonight. After losing to the Eagles 73-37 in a matchup earlier this season in Daytona Beach, the Sailfish fell at Rubin Arena tonight 69-38. PBA struggling to get anything going offensively all night as the defeat takes them to 3-17 and 1-12 in the SSC. Embry-Riddle improves to 8-12 and 6-8 in the conference with the win.
The Sailfish couldn't get much to fall in the first quarter, scoring just five points on 2-of-13 shooting. They also limited their chances on the offensive end by committing seven turnovers in the quarter. Subsequently, the Eagles came out firing with 22 first-quarter points on 61 percent shooting from the floor. Nikki Tucker led the Eagles with eight first-quarter points.
The second quarter didn't get much better for the Sailfish offensively. They were able to muster just six points in the second ten minutes which included a seven-plus minute scoring drought after shooting 3-of-12 from the floor. They finished the half with 13 turnovers and would end with 27 in the game. The Eagles turned those turnovers into 25 points included 19 fastbreak points. With the Sailfish scoring a season-low 11 points in the half, they trailed the Eagles by 26 points, 37-11.
The second half was more competitive for the Sailfish, but they were outscored 32-27 by the Eagles. PBA failed to have a player reach double-figures as guard
Sia Williams once again led them in scoring but with just seven points on 3-of-8 shooting. Overall, the 'Fish were 15-54 from the floor and 6-of-19 from behind the arc while Embry-Riddle shot 45 percent and hit seven three-pointers. Nikki Tucker was the lone Eagle to finish in double digits, scoring 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
The Sailfish have now dropped their last three SSC games since their home victory over Lynn on Jan. 22. PBA will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday as they travel to Tampa to face the first-place Spartans at 2 p.m.
