Sailfish Knocked Off at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. -  The Palm Beach Atlantic University men's soccer team dropped their first game of the season tonight at Saint Leo University by a score of 2-1. The No. 14 ranked Sailfish moved to 5-1-1 on the season after the loss, and Saint Leo moves to 4-4 on the year with the victory.

The Sailfish had beaten the Lions in their last four contests, however Saint Leo was able to jump out to an early lead in tonight's matchup. Six minutes into the game, Mauro Diaz was able to get on the end of a Federico Toschi pass and put the Lions up 1-0.

The 'Fish were the side creating the majority of the chances in the first 45 minutes. They outshot the Lions 12-4 in the first half and the pressure on the Saint Leo goal paid off when in the 31st minute Cadu Cusatis beat keeper Christian Evans to tie the game 1-1. The momentum for PBA was short-lived, when five minutes later Elias Niesigk beat keeper Elliott Barker to put the Lions back ahead 2-1.

After the break, the Sailfish remained on the front foot. They outshot the Lions 19-6 overall in the game, 8-4 in shots on goal, and PBA had all seven corners in the game. Saint Leo keeper Christian Evans recorded seven saves to keep PBA at bay and hold onto the win.

PBA will look to bounce back in their next game against Tampa. The Sailfish will play hosts to the Spartans on Oct. 5 at the Rinker Athletic Campus at 7 p.m.
