Sailfish Use Late Comeback to Knock Off FIT

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball used a late comeback to knock off Florida Tech on Senior Day to close out the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon.  The Sailfish were down by double-digits late in the game but stormed back to end the season with six wins and win four of their final nine SSC contests.

The Sailfish got off to a bit of a slow start, as PBA trailed 35-27 at the break.  The Sailfish got double-digit points from Jonika Garvin in the half and eight more from DeShazier, but struggled to find points elsewhere on the offensive end.

The 'Fish trailed by as many as 14 in the third quarter but finished the quarter on an 18-11 run to trail by seven heading to the fourth.  Darsan DeShazier hit two three's late in the third quarter to help cut into the lead and senior Mina Salhia went coast-to-coast to finish the third quarter and cut the Sailfish deficit to seven.

Victoria Self's fast-break jumper with six minutes remaining tied the game up at 57, and DeShazier's jumper the next time down gave the 'Fish a two-point lead.  The game was tied at 65 with 20 seconds remaining when Salhia was fouled and knocked down both free throws.  The 'Fish made enough free throws down to stretch to earn the 71-66 win over the Panthers.

Garvin finished with another monster game, as the senior finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds on the day.  DeShazier set a new career-high in scoring as the senior finished with 18 points.  Salhia finished with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals in her final game in the blue and white.  Aniyah Ross had a nice game down low as she finished with 10 rebounds.
