Sailfish Overpower Johnson In Home Victory

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team picked up its second home victory of the season as they defeated Johnson tonight at Rubin Arena by a score of 84-46. The Sailfish move their record to 2-9 with the victory and are now 2-1 in games played at Rubin Arena.

The Sailfish played their best game of the season tonight as they scored a season-high 84 points. The 'Fish were paced by Sia Williams who scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. The Sailfish had a balanced attack offensively as six players scored at least eight points. Johnson is still in search of its first victory on the year falling to 0-13. 

PBA jumped on the Suns early, outscoring them 28-7 in the first quarter where the Sailfish held Johnson to 1-of-14 shooting. In contrast, PBA was able to shoot an efficient 9-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three in the first quarter. Defensively, the Sailfish put the full-court press on the Suns and forced 16 first-half turnovers. PBA controlled the boards on both ends of the floor led by Ciara Cumbie and Kennedi Rodgers who brought down nine and eight rebounds respectively. Mackenzie Dickey came off the bench and provided a spark at the guard position. She scored a season-high nine points while also providing eight rebounds and six steals. The two sides went into the half with the Sailfish holding a 48-21 lead after shooting 46 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three. 

PBA continued its strong performance in the second half where they outscored the Suns 36-25. England Bennett came off the bench to score 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. The Sailfish cooled down from the floor in the second half shooting 34 percent but held their opponents to 26 percent. PBA was able to collect 24 offensive rebounds which led to 18 more shot attempts for the Sailfish. Johnson was led by Thaiz DeJesus who was the leading scorer in the game with 17 points. 

The Sailfish will go on winter break before returning to Sunshine State Conference play when they host Tampa on January 2. The Spartans are currently 4-0 in SSC play and have a 5-3 record so far on the year.
