Sailfish Held to Draw at Tars

WINTER PARK, FLA. -  The Palm Beach Atlantic University men's soccer team was held to a draw tonight in a Sunshine State Conference matchup at Rollins College. A late goal from the No. 24 ranked Sailfish forced overtime, but the draw moves PBA to 7-1-2 on the season and 2-1-2 in conference play.

The Sailfish went into the game against the Tars without one of their leading offensive players in Cadu Cusatis who unavailable for the Sailfish tonight. PBA fell behind early against the Tars when Rollins forward Christian Adams ran onto a long through ball. PBA keeper Elliott Barker tried to come off his line to intercept the pass but was beaten to the ball by Adams who was able to put the ball into an empty Sailfish net to give Rollins the early 1-0 lead.

The Sailfish saw plenty of the ball but it took thirty minutes for the Sailfish to create their first good chance when Guillermo Deal dribbled at the Tars defense and his right-footed shot from the top of the box missed the right post by inches. Two minutes later, substitute Harun Velic received the ball from Nicolas Le Metayer at the top of the box. His effort beat Rollins keeper Maximillian Obermeier but was denied by the left post.

The 'Fish have come out of the half strong all season but the first chance of the second half came to the Tars. PBA keeper Elliott Barker made one of his three saves in a one-on-one situation after a defensive error to keep PBA in the game. From that point on, PBA controlled the ball and created the chance as Rollins tried to sit behind the ball and hold onto their lead. PBA had their chances in the second half but Obermeier made ten saves for the Tars. The Sailfish outshot Rollins 12-1 in the second half, but it looked like they were going to be held without a goal for the first time this season when defender Charlie Lewis got a rebound in the left side of the box and his right-footed shot equalized for PBA with only one minute remaining in regulation.

The goal took PBA to overtime for the third time this season and in the first ten minute period of overtime, PBA forward Marc Hebbeker was denied on a breakaway opportunity once again by Obermeier. With three minutes left in the second overtime period, PBA was whistled for a handball in their own box that gave Rollins a penalty kick. Rollins captain Max Muecke narrowly missed the penalty outside the left post to end the game in a 1-1 draw.

The Sailfish are yet to get a win away from home in SSC play, but have a big opportunity in their next game against No. 8 ranked Lynn. The Fighting Knights are 8-0-1 on the season and will host PBA on Oct. 16 in Boca Raton, Fla.
