Freshmen Kylie Meola and Jaycie Tate each scored the first and second goals of their collegiate careers Saturday night as the Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team routed Florida Memorial, 5-0. The Sailfish have seen all six offensive goals scored this season by freshmen and transfer players.
The Sailfish set the tone early, piecing together through balls for multiple chances in the first five minutes. Tate put the Sailfish on the board in the sixth minute after scoring her first collegiate goal with a lofty header from a fantastic feed from sophomore Maddie McCarty.
PBA scored again in the 17th minute when Meola shot a beautiful ball from 5 yards outside of the box that sailed into the upper corner of the goal. The Sailfish entered the half leading the Lions 2-0.
The second half saw both Meola and Tate add their second goals of the game and season. Meola finished directly in front of the goal mouth in the 60th minute after a cross from Kylee Rullo, while Tate put away a one-on-one opportunity with a through ball in the 62nd minute from Karina Williams.
Senior Dominique Barber scored her first goal as a member of the women's soccer team in the 71st minute when she headed a perfectly crossed ball from senior Sydney Jimenez.
In total, the Sailfish recorded 25 shots while the Lions recorded just one off-target chance. Lions goalkeeper Adriana Rosero tallied five saves.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action tomorrow at home against Glenville State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
