Sailfish Sweep Eagles To Win 22nd Straight

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 7 Palm Beach Atlantic softball needed only two runs to extend their winning streak to 22 games on Friday, defeating Embry-Riddle 1-0 in both games to finish off the sweep of the Eagles.

The Sailfish (25-2, 18-0 SSC) and Eagles (25-11, 13-8 SSC) again needed extra innings in the finale before the Sailfish walked off again. The 'Fish won all three games in their final at bat as they scored the only run in game one in the sixth.

The Sailfish will travel to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern next Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is set to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday's doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m.

Game One
Ashton Adkins allowed just two hits to improve to 9-1 on the season before Kaley Hinds knocked home the winning run for the second straight game. Adkins took a perfect game into the fifth before a single by the Eagles led off the inning. The only other hit given up by Adkins came with two outs in the sixth. She finished the game with six strikeouts.

The Sailfish picked up six hits led by Michaela Hynes who had a single and a double in the game. Her sixth inning single led off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt she stole third with two outs to set up Hinds. Hinds singled into left to score Hynes and give her back-to-back game-winning hits.

Game Two
Abbey Busby went eight innings for the second straight day but this time came away with her 11th victory as PBA won 1-0 in eight innings. Busby struck out four along the way and walked just one, giving up six hits.

The biggest play in the game before the walk off hit came in the top of the sixth as the Eagles had a runner at second with two outs. A single wide of first allowed Katy Thompson to reach but Maggie Scott was thrown out trying to score from second.

PBA finished with six hits in the game with Maddie Bertisch the lone 'Fish with a multi-hit effort. In the eighth Magnolia West led off with a bunt single and moved up to second with a bunt single by Claudia Pizzarelli. After a sac bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Hynes singled up the middle to give the 'Fish their 22nd straight win.
