West's Homer Leads to 14th Straight Victory for Sailfish Softball

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball used a three-run homer from Magnolia West and solid pitching to defeat Lynn University on Friday, defeating the Fighting Knights 3-2 to improve to 17-2 on the season.  The Sailfish remain on top of the Sunshine State Conference standings with their 10-0 record in league play.  Lynn is now 17-14 on the season.

Abbey Busby and Francais Olexa were locked in a pitcher's duel early on, as the first few innings flew by with both teams unable to break through in the run column.  The top of the fifth is where the Sailfish finally broke through, as Alexis Guerra and Taylor Pennica reached base to set the stage for West, who blasted her first home run of the season to give the 'Fish a 3-0 lead.

Lynn fought back with single runs in the fifth and the sixth innings, to cut the Sailfish lead to 3-2.  Ashton Adkins entered the game in the sixth however, and threw two scoreless innings to earn the save.  Adkins struck out three batters in her two innings of work.

Busby earns the win on the mound for the Sailfish, improving to 7-0 on the season.  The freshman went 4.1 innings on the day, allowing one run on four hits.

The Sailfish picked up four hits on the day, as they win their 14th game in a row overall.

The Sailfish and Fighting Knights will conclude their three-game conference series tomorrow, as they will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
