Sailfish Secure Winning Record in 2-1 Season Finale

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer fell behind early to Embry-Riddle on Tuesday night but didn't lose focus as the Sailfish battled back in the season finale to defeat the Eagles, 2-1. The win gives PBA a 8-7-2 overall record, the team's first winning season since 2013.

The Eagles pressured early and blocked any offensive opportunities for the 'Fish. Embry-Riddle struck first in the  31st minute after Saba Amiri rifled a ball played in by Eva Jansdottir into the top right corner of the goal.

Both teams struggled to maintain possession for the remainder of the half. The 'Fish ended the first 45 minutes of play with just one shot on goal.

The second half saw both teams come alive offensively with Embry-Riddle and PBA tallying 11 and nine shots, respectively. Jonsdottir nearly put the Eagles up 2-0 in the 56th minute when her shot from outside the box blasted into the crossbar and deflected down inches from the goal line.

Karina Williams scored the tying goal in the 76th minute, taking on two Eagles defenders before lobbing a ball from five yards outside the box to the far post. The lofted ball hit the crossbar and deflected off the Eagles 'keeper into the net.

PBA and Embry-Riddle traded chances for the next 12 minutes. The 'Fish finally broke through in the 88th minute when a cross from the sideline deflected off of Williams and onto the feet of Kylee Rullo. Rullo slotted a shot to the left post past the 'keeper, scoring her fourth goal of the season and giving the Sailfish the 2-1 win.

The Sailfish just missed qualifying for the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. Women's soccer returns to action next fall.
