Sailfish Drop Season Opener to West Georgia

TAMPA, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball dropped their season opener to the University of West Georgia on Friday, dropping the south region contest by a 74-60 score.  The Sailfish struggled offensively in the game, shooting just 23.6 percent from the field.

West Georgia began the game on a roll, as they raced out to a 13-0 lead just three minutes into the season opener for both teams.  The Sailfish had an immediate answer however, as they outscored the Wolves 20-6 over the remaining minutes of the quarter to lead 20-19.  The 'Fish shot just 4-of-14 in the quarter, but made all 10 of their free-throw attempts in the opening period.  Mina Salhia led the way with 11 points in the opening quarter of play.

The second quarter is where West Georgia began to pull away, as they outscored the 'Fish 28-16, and opened up an 11-point halftime lead.

The Sailfish were unable to significantly cut into the Wolves lead and fell by a 74-60 final.  The Sailfish struggled from the field all day, as they made just 17 of their 72 field goal attempts.  The 'Fish also struggled from long distance, going 4-of-24 from three-point range.

Salhia and Hannah Grim led the Sailfish in scoring, as both finished the game with 16 points for the 'Fish.  Grim added six rebounds and six assists on the day, while Darsan Deshazier scored 10 points off the bench.  Ciara Cumbie impressed in her season opener, scoring nine points and pulling down 16 rebounds while adding five steals off the bench for the 'Fish.

Kayla Carter and Kilah Nixon scored 14 points each for the Wolves, while De'Ashia Jones recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
