No. 8 Ranked Sailfish Defeat Lions 7-0

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer continued their undefeated season on Monday night, trouncing the visiting Florida Memorial University Lions by a 7-0 score. The shutout win puts the No.8 ranked Sailfish at 6-0-2 on the year.

In a night where head coach Brian McMahon rested the majority of his starters and gave some players a chance that don't see the field often, the Sailfish offense ran rampant over the visiting Lions, who are now 0-4 this season. The 'Fish held onto possession of the ball for the majority of the game and continually put pressure on the Lions when they lost it.

Joao Coutinho opened the scoring after he headed in a cross from Cleef Desir from close range.  Phill Cardoso got his first goal of the evening after a foul from Florida Memorial forced a free kick just outside the box. Cardoso easily curled it just out of the keepers reach and into the top corner.

The third PBA goal of the evening came from Chris Sandys-Thomas who ran onto a through ball from freshman Andres Flores and put it past the keeper.

PBA went into the halftime break leading by three, but it took just 34 seconds into the second half for Cardoso to get his second of the night. Cardoso jumped in the way of the keeper's clearance and put the rebound in the goal.

Desir got his first goal of the night after a backward pass by the FMU defense got away from their keeper. Desir was there to put in the loose ball.  Desir got his second soon after, finishing a low, hard cross from Cardoso on the left wing.  The final goal on the night for the Sailfish was a penalty kick slotted home by Raphael Campos.

PBA will resume conference play on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. against No. 5 ranked Lynn University.
