Sailfish Fall to Saint Leo to End 2016 Season

ST. LEO, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team fell to Saint Leo University Sunday afternoon, losing by a 4-0 final score. The match drops the Sailfish to 5-9-1 on the season, and 2-6-1 in Sunshine State Conference play. The win improves Saint Leo to 11-3-1 on the season, and 7-1-1 in SSC play. The Lions clinch the No. 1 seed in the SSC Women's Soccer Championship, which will be held this week.

The first half was all Lions, as they flexed their muscles early and often, scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes of play. Saint Leo scored goals in the fourth, 25th, and 28th minutes to take a commanding lead. Sailfish goalkeeper Isabelle Granlund made three saves in the half. Shannon Berg had the lone Sailfish shot on goal in the half, but it was scooped up by Lion goalie Megan Charlton. The Lions added a fourth goal in the 39th minute, as an Arielle Kabangu shot rattled off the post and into the net.

The Sailfish regrouped defensively in the second half, as the 'Fish only allowed four Lion shots in the frame, and outshot the Lions 5-4 in the half. The half remained scoreless throughout as the match finished as a 4-0 defeat for the Sailfish.

This marks the end of the 2016 season for Palm Beach Atlantic, as the 5-9-1 record matches that of the 2015 season. The Sailfish finished the season just below even in goal differential, as they scored 18 goals on the season and gave up 21 while Granlund and the Sailfish defense combined for five shutouts. The Sailfish will lose three seniors, as Karina White, Bridget Wollrabe, and Stephanie D'Cruz all finished their playing careers at Palm Beach Atlantic University Sunday.
