WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team suffered another tough loss in the Rubin Arena on Tuesday night, this time at the hands of the Florida Tech Panthers, 58-47.
The Sailfish held a slim 30-29 lead at the halftime break, but the Panthers turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, holding PBA to just 26% (8-of-31) from the field and allowing only 17 points. FIT in the meantime, would connect on 33% (10-of-30) from the floor and make 8-of-13 from the free throw line to seal the victory.
PBA’s first half lead came thanks to some strong play once again from senior Kasie Parker. The 5-foot-8 guard had 11 points at the break to lead all scorers. Tech came out in the second half determined to shut Parker down, and she only managed four points (for a total of 15) the rest of the way.
The Sailfish also got a double-digit scoring effort from senior Jaz Green, who finished with ten points and eight rebounds. Freshman forward Taylor Buchanan also grabbed a career-high eight boards. In total, nine PBA players made it into the soring column on the night.
For the game, Palm Beach Atlantic shot 34% (20-of-59) and just 21% (3-of-14) from behind the three-point line. The Sailfish outrebounded the Panthers by a 43-38 margin, but committed 23 turnovers compared to FIT’s 16.
PBA hits the road for the rest of the month, traveling to DeLand, Fla. to take on NCAA Division I Stetson University on Thursday morning at 11 AM. The Sailfish will then travel to North Carolina, where they will play Fayetteville State on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM, and Shaw University on Sunday, also at 2 PM.
