Strunk's Saves and Hubbard's Goal Help Sailfish Down Sharks 1-0

Box Score

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Seniors Charlie Hubbard and Jonathan Strunk played hero on Wednesday night, giving Palm Beach Atlantic a 1-0 victory over South Florida rival Nova Southeastern, and pushing the Sailfish record to a perfect 7-0.

It was a colossal battle from the outset, with the first half being dominated by the Nova time of possession. The Sharks’ defense shut down the Sailfish, with PBA able to muster just one shot on goal in the half, while Nova registered nine, including three shots on goal.

For another 30 minutes after the half the two teams jostled back-and-forth until Palm Beach Atlantic was finally able to strike. Hubbard’s goal came off a counter-attack by the Fish in the 74th minute, with a beautiful assist from junior Evan Singlar setting up the strike from 20 yards out. It was Charlie’s third goal of the season.

Senior keeper Jonathan Strunk was lights-out all game, turning aside a season-high ten Nova shots in the match. The Sharks had an overwhelming 22 shots in the contest compared to the Sailfish seven, but the combination of Strunk and defense of Lewis Thompson, Chris Karafilov, Ben Vogeney and Branden Langenberg carried PBA to the victory.

The Sailfish return to action looking to push their record to a perfect 8-0 next Wednesday against the Barry University Buccaneers. It is the first home match of the season for Palm Beach Atlantic at nearby Magic Jack Field.
