ALAMOSA, Colo.- Kenny Hogg and the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team came back in a flash to take down host Adams State College in the 2012 season opener Friday night, 2-1.
After falling behind 1-0 on a penalty kick to start the second half, Hogg found the net twice in a span of 78 seconds in the latter portion of the game. A well-orchestrated attack by AJ Black and Cameron Roberts set Hogg up for his first finish in the 79th minute, and with the score briefly knotted at one all, Evan Singlar beat his defender, found a clear path to Hogg, and Kenny drove it home for goal number two in the 81st minute.
The defense was solid all night around GK Jonathan Strunk, who made two saves on the night. Chris Karafilov and Ben Vogeney anchored the back line for all 90 minutes, while Tyler Sanders provided extra help from the midfield throughout the entire match as well.
It was a great team win for the Sailfish, who had to overcome a number of adversities in the victory. “We were playing in a higher altitude, on field turf after a three-hour drive… It wasn’t an easy set of circumstances at all, but the guys overcame it. It was a good game to build some character on,” commented head coach Jose Gomez.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action against the Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday at 3:00 pm EST. The match will take place in Lakewood, Colorado, and you can follow the match via live stats provided by CCU.
