Sailfish Unable to Topple West Florida Argonauts

Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla.- After a trip to Valdosta State University on Thursday, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team wrapped up their post-holidays road trip with a Saturday afternoon matchup versus the University of West Florida. Despite their best efforts, the Fish came away defeated by a final score of 74-58.

Sophomore Haley Adcock (Monroe, Ga.) put together a season-best 15 points from the center position as the 6’2” post player has now put together back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts for the first time this season.

With PBA season leading-scorer Brooke Burgess (Palm City, Fla.) receiving most of the defensive efforts from the Argonauts, Adcock would capitalize by adding in five rebounds, three blocks, and two steals to go along with her team-leading total in points.

Burgess, averaging a double-double on the season, collected only seven points on the afternoon but did lead all players with 13 rebounds for the game. Fellow sophomore Ashley Adkins (Nacogdoches, Texas) reached double-figures in points by hitting 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc and notching 11 total points in the scoring column.Melissa Perez (Miami, Fla.) added in nine rebounds and seven points for PBA.

One area of deep concern for head coach Robin Potera-Haskins were the high total of turnovers in PBA’s contest versus West Florida. In total, the Sailfish had 33 miscues which led to many easy chances for the Argonauts through out the game.

Now 1-16 on the season, PBA now turns its attention to the second semester and hopefully a better overall brand of basketball. The Fish will look for their second win of the year against the likes of Florida Memorial University when they play host on Tuesday, January 8th at 7 pm.
