Brian Justine

Baseball: Brian Justine  Assistant Baseball Coach
  Alma Mater: FIU /Manhattan College

The Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball pitching coach and assistant to head coach Gary Carter is Brian Justine.

The Founder and Director of the Tommy Hutton Baseball Academy in Jupiter, Florida, Justine works with the Sailfish pitching staff as well as assist Carter in scouting, recruiting, practice sessions, and on-field coaching.

After his first season with the team in 2010, the Sailfish pitching staff made dramatic improvements not only in the win column but with some other impressive statistical improvements as well. After a 10-win season in 2009, Palm Beach Atlantic improved to 17 wins in 2010 including a winning home record after notching only one home win in 2009.

A big part of the improvement of the PBA baseball program came with the focus and attention of Justine on the Sailfish hurlers. After registering a team earned-run average of 8.05 in 2009, the PBA pitchers dropped nearly three runs a game to their ERA by improving to 5.82 in 2010. Opposing hitters found it more difficult to put consistent swings against the Sailfish in 2010 evidenced by the drop in opposing hitters batting average of .346 in 2009 to .301 in 2010.

A veteran pitching instructor through his time not only as a collegiate assistant coach, Justine also has a professional playing background as a left-handed pitcher.

Justine’s coaching career began as an American Legion coach from 2000-2007 in Palm Beach County after wrapping up his playing career. He then moved on to Manhattan College as an assistant coach under head coach Kevin Leighton for the 2008 season.

A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Justine attended W.T. Dwyer High School before moving on to play at Broward Community College from 1995-1997. During this time, Justine was a two-time draft pick of the Detroit Tigers in 1995 and 1996.

After completing his course work at Broward Community College, Justine moved on to play at the NCAA Division I level for both Florida International University (1997-1998) and the University of New Orleans (1998-1999). He also spent a pair of seasons pitching for Independent teams in the Frontier League and Northern League in 1999 and 2000.

Justine earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from FIU in 2000 while completing his Master’s degree in Education Administration from Manhattan College in 2009.
