DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis won for the second time in three matches as the Sailfish knocked off Embry-Riddle 6-3 on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The ‘Fish (11-9) got off to a good start in doubles play, taking both number one and number three. Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi continued their impressive season with an 8-1 victory over Lydia Carter and Ana Gonzalez Hoy to push their season record to 14-3. Taylor Conti and Valerie Nagovitcina haven’t lost as a tandem this season, running their record to 6-0 after an 8-5 victory over Alexis Marshall and Maud Mrad at the top position.
As singles play began the Eagles (2-10) started closing the gap, winning at both number two and number six to take a 3-2 lead in the match. The Sailfish retook control as Bolagay and Mignemi were the next two off the court. Both picked up straight sets victories as Bolagay took down Kathryn Bock 6-2, 6-2. Mignemi improved to 14-4 on the year with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carter at number five.
The final two matches to finish both went to three sets with the Sailfish needing to win just one to clinch the match. Nagovitcina was the first to finish as she defeated Mrad 6-2 in the third to pick up win number ten on the season. Nagovitcina also won the first set 6-3 before Mrad took the second 6-1. Conti was also able to close out the win in the third set, taking down Alexis Marshall 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
The Sailfish will play their final home match of the season on Wednesday against No. 26 Nova Southeastern at 4 p.m. before playing their final two matches of the regular season on the road.
