HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 46 Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis team wrapped up their week-long stay in South Carolina with their fifth win in six matches, defeating West Liberty 8-1 on Saturday morning.
The Sailfish (7-3) didn’t drop a set in their five singles wins with West Liberty winning only at number one singles. Bernardo Ferreira was the lone winner that was pushed on the day, winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) over Santiago Gutierrez. WLU’s Baptiste Perrin – who is nationally ranked at #50 – was the only winner on the day for the Hilltoppers, taking down Pato Zarazua 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles play, Philipp Hoffmann and Thomas Salmon were pushed, but came away with an 8-6 victory over Pablo Cimorra and Cmilo Moncayo at the third spot. Zarazua and Pietro de Silva were also winners, taking down Perrin and Gutierrez, 8-3. Rafael Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira had the easiest time, winning over Andrew ponder and Matt Tully, 8-1.
Lenz and Hoffmann both picked up wins in the top half of the singles lineup with Lenz winning 6-2, 6-0 over Ponder and Hoffmann beating Tully 6-1, 6-2. De Silva and Salmon both picked up straight sets wins as well, de Silva 6-3, 6-3 over Moncayo and Salmon 6-2, 6-2 over Cimorra.
The Sailfish will take on Queens (NY) on Monday in Orlando at 3 p.m.
