HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – For the second time on Wednesday the No. 46 Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis team completed a match that started on a previous day, this time defeating No. 50 Chowan University 6-3.
The Sailfish led 3-1 before the match was suspended on Monday evening, winning number one and two doubles and six singles before the rain came. The duo of Bernardo Ferreira and Rafael Lenz picked up their fourth win of the season, all at the top spot while Pietro de Silva and Pato Zarazua earned their team-leading fifth win. Thomas Salmon even his season record at 3-3 with a straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Finally being able to complete the match on Wednesday, the ‘Fish clinched the match after Philipp Hoffmann and Zarazua picked up wins. Hoffmann went to 4-3 with a straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 win at number three. Zarazua also only needed two sets to defeat his opponent, Adi Kaliakperov, 6-4, 6-4.
Ferreira remained unbeaten in singles play, knocking off Mariano Yeh after dropping the first set. Yeh took the first 7-5 before Ferreira bounced back to even up the match with a 6-4 second set. He went on to win the third 10-7.
The ‘Fish will get back to their regularly scheduled matches on Thursday, taking on NCAA D1 East Carolina at 8:00 a.m. PBA will play on Friday and Saturday before returning to Florida.
