HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis fell to 1-2 in their trip to South Carolina with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Tusculum College on Tuesday evening.
The Sailfish picked up a win in both singles and doubles action with Valerie Nagovitcina securing the lone singles victory. The senior earned her third win of the season, playing at the second position for the first time this season. She defeated Franziska Funke in three sets after dropping the first 6-4. Nagovitcina bounced back to take the second 6-3 before winning the third 10-3.
Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi improved to 6-2 on the season with an 8-6 win at number three doubles. The pair knocked off Brittani Brooks and Amber Lackey 8-6. The Sailfish nearly picked up a win at number one doubles, as Leoni Polzin and Nagovitcina lost in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-1).
Two matches were not completed as the Pioneers led in number five singles and PBA led in six singles.
The Sailfish are scheduled to have an off day on Wednesday before playing two matches on Thursday, the first at 8:30 a.m. against Michigan Tech and the second against Brevard College at 12:30 p.m.
