WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball couldn’t hold their lead after three quarters, falling to Saint Leo 80-61 on Wednesday night in Rubin Arena. The Sailfish led by one after the first 30 minutes, only to drop their fourth in five games.
The ‘Fish (8-15, 4-12 SSC) went into halftime tied at 32-32 with the Lions (9-14, 4-11 SSC) but were just 2-of-19 from the floor in the final quarter as Saint Leo pulled out the victory. The Sailfish made 12-of-34 overall in the second half as they outscored the Lions 24-23 in the third quarter but finished the game at just 34 percent from the floor. The Lions shot 46 percent overall including 53 percent (9-of-21) from long range.
Hannah Grim scored nine of her 15 in that third quarter for the Sailfish including her lone triple of the night. She finished as the team leader in points and assists, finishing with three dimes. Caroline Patrick returned for the Sailfish after missing the last eight games and knocked down all four attempts from long range to finish with 12 points in 15 minutes. She led the team in the first half with nine points.
Nikkira Brown added 11 points off the bench before fouling out in 25 minutes of action as the Sailfish outscored the Saint Leo bench 29-12. The Lions were led on the night by Ragen Dotson who scored 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting including 5-of-10 from long distance. Ayanna Holmes added nine points and eight rebounds for PBA.
The Sailfish fall a half game behind Saint Leo and Lynn in the SSC standings with the loss. Lynn and Saint Leo are tied for the final two spots in the SSC Tournament heading into the final three games of the regular season.
PBA hits the road for two of their final three games of the regular season. The final home game will be on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. as the ‘Fish host Embry-Riddle for Senior Night. PBA will head to St. Petersburg this Saturday to take on Eckerd College at 4 p.m.
