WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Entering his third season at the helm of the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball program, head coach Terry Primm has recently released the 2009-2010 game schedule for his Sailfish program. One of the most challenging schedules arguably in the NCAA South Region, the Fish have 26 regular season games on the schedule including two NCAA Division I opponents.
Having increased their win total by five games from his first season on the bench, Primm opted to once again take on some of the best competition not only in the Southeast but also two challenging mid-season tournaments.
“We really want to challenge our team against the best competition in America. The schedule we have put together will force our guys to bring their best effort every night and prepare us for a run at the postseason,” said Primm.
The Sailfish open their season on November 11th when they travel to Florida Memorial University for an exhibition contest at 7 p.m. in Miami. PBA officially opens the 2009-2010 campaign on the road against tradition-rich Eckerd College on November 18th in St. Petersburg, Florida at 7 p.m. The Sailfish defeated the Tritons twice last season in a home-and-home matchup.
Beginning the weekend of November 20th, the Sailfish will travel north to Winona, Minnesota to participate in the Winona State Tournament, taking on the likes of Cardinal Stritch University and either Winona State University or Clarke University. They will also participate in the Valdosta State University Classic against VSU and the University of West Florida, December 4th-5th.
Continuing their busy start to the season, the Fish have their home opener scheduled for November 24th at 7 p.m. against another tough Sunshine State Conference opponent in Rollins College. The two teams split a season ago with each team winning on their respective home floor.
Other home dates include Barry University (Dec. 1), Florida Southern College (Dec. 12), Florida Tech (Dec. 21), Judson University (Jan. 2), Columbus State University (Jan 5), Lynn University (Jan. 12), Nova Southeastern (Jan. 20), Eckerd College (Jan. 30), and Northwood University (Feb. 15).
As was the case last season, the Sailfish will take on two NCAA Division I opponents, Stetson University on November 25th and a rematch of last season’s narrow loss to the University of North Florida on December 30th.
In total, the Fish will take on eight of the nine Sunshine State Conference teams with the only exception being Saint Leo University. PBA also continues their cross-town rivalry with Northwood University by traveling to the NU campus on January 18th and welcoming in the Seahawks on February 15th.
