WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team and head coach Jose Gomez has announced his second national letter of intent (NLI) signing for the 2009 season in Frankfort, Illinois native Matthew Crumb. A defender from Lincoln-Way East High School, Crumb joins Charlie Hubbard in this year’s class thus far.
A former club player in the state of Florida for the Central Florida United (U11-U13), Crumb then took his skills on display in Illinois for the Chicago Magic Soccer Club while playing in the U14-U15 time frame. Most recently Crumb spent time with the Windy City Pride (U17-Elite).
Crumb has been a varsity starter since his freshman year and closed out his high school career by being named to the Daily Southtown All-Area Team and the Defensive Player of the Year for his high school team.
While graduating a large number from his senior class last year, Gomez knows adding fresh talent like Crumb is key to keeping his team competitive within the NCAA South Region.
“PBA is excited about Matthew being part of our program. He comes from a rich club background and the coaching staff looks forward to working with him on the field. His involvement with FCA in Chicago will bring some new ideas to our campus and we will encourage him to grow closer to Christ while attending PBA,” said Gomez.
With the summer months the only time separating Crumb from arriving for preseason training in the fall, it won’t be long until he suits up for his first game as a Sailfish.
