GREENVILLE, S.C.- Krasimir Atanasov and Luke Bolanos were among the big winners for the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced its All-American listing after the conclusion of the national tournament championship. Both Atanasov and Bolanos were recognized as First-Team All-Americans in singles while Atanasov also earned honors in doubles.
Both in their first-year with the PBA men’s tennis team, Atanasov and Bolanos both stepped into their respective #1 and #2 spots in the singles rotation with relative ease.
A native of Bulgaria, Atanasov firmly placed himself in the top spot from day one and showed why PBA tennis fans are excited for his time in a Sailfish uniform. Teaming up with Atanasov in the All-American listing for doubles was senior James Buerkle. A local product from Lake Worth, Buerkle closed out his PBA tennis career in fine fashion with All-American First-Team honors in men’s doubles.
Bolanos has a bright future ahead of him in a Sailfish uniform as the Debary, Florida native used a solid first season in the fall to catapult himself into an even better spring season. Just a freshman, Bolanos will look to improve and be even better for his sophomore campaign in 2010.
As a big part of the NCCAA mission, Ministry Awards were also given out at the NCCAA National Tournament where the Fish finished runner-up. Buerkle along with fellow senior John Tilton and junior Frankie Moulton were all honored for their good service off the court.
PBA finished the season 17-9, reaching the 17-win plateau for the second consecutive season.
