GREENVILLE, S.C.- Now that their season is complete and the summer months will provide some rest and relaxation, it is also time to announce the award winners for the 2009 spring season. The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team once again put together a fine season that resulted in a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) runner-up finish and a number of individual awards.
Sophomore Montse Ripoll highlighted the individual awards as she earned her second straight honor of NCCAA All-American status as she played #1-singles for the entire season for head coach Chi Ly.
Joining Ripoll in the All-American listing was junior Natalie Aleman and sophomore Lina Rubiano as both players earned NCCAA All-American Second-Team. A junior from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and a team captain, Aleman has now completed three years of court time for the Sailfish. Rubiano is a local product from Summit Christian School and has now earned NCCAA All-American status in both her seasons on the court for PBA.
The Sailfish secured a number of awards off the court as well with four players earning a Ministry Award for their good work off the court. Ripoll and Aleman were two of the honorees and were joined by junior Katie Livesay and sophomore Krishna Domenech.
The Lady Sailfish finished their season 16-11 on the year with their second consecutive NCCAA National Tournament Runner-Up finish.
