MARION, Ind.- With the weather simply not cooperating, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Tennis Championships were forced inside as Palm Beach Atlantic University found themselves in the championship final for the second year in a row. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, they came out disappointed once again as they were defeated by Dallas Baptist University by a final tally of 5-3.
Both NCAA Division II institutions, the Sailfish were defeated by DBU earlier in the tournament before facing them in the finals as well.
Things appeared to be going in PBA’s favor on this day as they jumped to a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition was complete. Montserrat Ripoll and Lina Rubiano paced the Sailfish at #1-doubles with an 8-3 victory while Natalie Aleman and Amber Braaten earned an 8-2 victory at #3-doubles.
Singles action is where the Patriots made their comeback though as Ripoll at #1-singles was the only player to register a victory as she defeated Natalie Holmes 6-2, 6-1. Aleman was leading her singles match 5-4 at #3-singles before the match was called as DBU had enough cushion for the win.
PBA ends their season with another fine overall showing as the Fish finished 16-11.
