DAVIE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team hit the road on Saturday afternoon for a double-header with Nova Southeastern University at the AD Griffin Sports Complex. The Sharks came away with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in game one that featured 11 innings and its fair share of memorable moments on what was “Senior Day” for the Sharks.

Sailfish junior Ashley Jones (20-8) and Sharks sophomore Lexi Sarradet (24-6) both battled each other and the opposing lineups for 11 innings with Sarradet winning the battle this time around with the 3-2 victory.

It didn’t appear however though that would be the way things would end for the Sailfish when junior Chelsea Gravini produced a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to break the scoreless tie and give the Sailfish a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the inning.

After Jones retired the first two hitters, NSU shortstop Lauren Lopez connected for a solo homerun followed by another solo shot from Jessica Hernandez that put the Sharks fans on their feet as the game was tied.

With both teams having some opportunities to continue to score in extra innings it would the Sharks who finally came through in the 11th inning as Lopez led off with a double, was moved around on to third-base on a sacrifice bunt and then came home when PBA shortstop Caitlin Bouschet was unable to handle a hot shot off the bat of Brittney Lamb that allowed Lopez to score the game-winning run.

Jones took the loss for the Fish despite pitching another outstanding game as she was tagged for seven hits and three earned runs while striking out seven and issuing three walks. Sarradet allowed five hits while walking four and striking out eight batters.

Lopez finished an impressive 4-for-5 for the game.

No Sailfish hitter registered more than one hit.
