LAKE WORTH, Fla.- After falling behind 2-0 against Lynn University on Wednesday evening, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team fought back for a single run on a RBI single from junior Chelsea Gravini  in the fifth inning then saw Gravini strike again an inning later for a long two-run homerun to push the Fish to a 3-2 victory over LU at John W. Anderson Field.

Ashley Jones came on in relief for starter Heather Laird with the junior pitching combo combining for the victory. Laird tallied the first four innings with her only serious blemish being a two-run homerun given up in the third inning to Rachael Larkins that put the Fighting Knights in the lead. Laird finished with three strikeouts and two walks allowed while giving up six hits and two earned runs.

Jones came on to earn her 19th victory of the season as she tallied the final three frames while allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out four batters.

After the Larkins long-ball sailed over the left-field fence in the third inning, the Sailfish bats got going in the bottom of the inning against LU starter Christie Kaufman (8-10).

Leadoff hitter Candace Horton got things started in the inning with a single while moving around to second-base on a groundout from Dani Perrotti. After Horton advanced to third-base on a wild pitch, Gravini stepped in and drilled a shot to right-center that bounced off the tip of the glove of Knights centerfielder Kathleen Smith which allowed Horton to score.

The Fish struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning as Perrotti connected for a one-out single followed by a long, towering two-run homerun from Gravini that pushed PBA ahead 3-2.

That would be all the offense PBA would need as Jones closed the door on the 3-2 game one victory.
