Box Score

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla.- After struggling much of the weekend to score runs, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team exploded for six runs in the first inning and eight runs through the first three innings on Saturday in game two’s 9-3 win over Flagler College.

The Sailfish improve to 27-15 on the season while earning a weekend and season series sweep over Flagler with a perfect 5-0 record.

Palm Beach Atlantic scored six times in the first inning while sending 11 batters to the plate. It wasn’t all the work of the PBA bats however as the Saints registered three errors behind starting pitcher Kristen Chapman.

Freshman Erica Walters, who swung a good bat through the four games during the weekend trip to Saint Augustine, registered an RBI single in the first inning as did Dani Perrotti and Becca Bolinger. Brittany Schneider added in a RBI on a fielder’s choice.

The six-run first frame was more than enough support to back PBA starting pitcher Heather Laird who earned her second win of the weekend as she evened up her season record at 7-7. Laird finished her day with an impressive 12 strikeouts while allowing five hits, three runs, and one walk.

PBA added in single runs in the second and third innings to extend their lead. Perrotti came through with her second RBI single of the game as she drove home fellow junior Chelsea Gravini who led off the inning with a triple. Bolinger led off the third inning with a triple while coming home to score on another error by the Saints.

The Fish scored their final run in the top of the seventh as Bolinger once again got things rolling with a double and came home to score on a RBI groundout from Mari Stokes.

Bouschet, Walters, and Perrotti each registered two hits in the game while Bolinger produced team-high honors with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate. The Fish struck out just two times as a team on the day.

PBA will play their next contest on Tuesday, April 7th as they will take on Barry University for a double-header beginning at 5 pm in Miami Shores, Florida.
