SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla.- With run support at a premium for the second time in as many starts over the weekend, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team came out on top this time around as they defeated Flagler College by a score of 1-0 behind another outstanding outing from junior Ashley Jones.
After dropping a similar contest the day before the Columbus State University, it would be the Sailfish who would score a run late on Saturday as they earned the hard-fought 1-0 win over the host Saints.
Junior Dani Perrotti drove home the only run of the game as she delivered a bunt that allowed Caitlin Bouschet to come in and score in the sixth inning.
Jones went the distance for her eighth shutout of the season all while earning her new season career-high for wins with 18 victories. Jones won 17 games as a sophomore during the 2008 campaign. She finished off the Saints on Saturday in impressive fashion by allowing only two hits while walking two and striking out 12 batters.
For the Saints, pitcher Sam Boatner nearly matched Jones pitch-for-pitch as she also tallied all seven innings in the circle while allowing just two hits and one earned run. Boatner allowed three walks while striking out six.
Bouschet and freshman Erica Walters were the only PBA players to register hits with Walters coming through in the crucial sixth inning with a double that moved Bouschet around to third-base before coming in to score on the bunt by Perrotti.
