DAVIE, Fla.- After getting back to their winning ways in their last match against Community College of Florida Jacksonville, the Sailfish hoped to continue their solid play Tuesday afternoon against Nova Southeastern. Unlike the Stars, Nova provided a much tougher challenge, as the Sharks came into the match ranked #18 in the country. The Sailfish battled all afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Sharks by a score of 8-1.
From the start, it appeared the Sailfish would give the Sharks a run for their money. Once again, the dynamic duo of Montse Ripoll and Olga Alekseeva picked up a win for the Sailfish in the #1 singles match. Unfortunately, the 8-5 win would be the last time the Sailfish would taste victory in the match. The Sharks would soon steal back the momentum by winning the next two singles matches to carry a 2-1 lead to singles play.
In singles play, the Sharks continued their dominance of the Sailfish by winning all six matches. For the Sailfish, Katie Livesay and Alekseeva lost their matches in heartbreaking fashion against Nova opponents. Both Sailfish stars took their opponents to the brink in three sets, but didn’t have enough in the tank to pull out victories for the Fish.
With the loss, the Sailfish drop to 12-8 overall on the season. They will be back in action on Friday, April 3, as they travel to the west coast of Florida to take on the University of Tampa. Be sure to check www.pbasailfish.com for all of the match details and highlights.
