Women's Tennis Basking in the Sun and Fun of Hilton Head

Written By: Ron Kotouch, PBA Sports Information Graduate Assistant

HILTON HEAD, S.C.-  It was a different opponent, but the same story Wednesday afternoon, as the Sailfish torched St. John Fisher College 9-0 to continue a perfect spring break trip.  With the warm sun and beautiful beaches, the Sailfish women’s tennis team could call Hilton Head, South Carolina a home away from home.  If they keep winning, the squad might want to make Hilton Head their new home.

After nail-biting 5-4 victories over Ashland University and Rockhurst University in their previous matches, the Sailfish needed a break from drama and adversity for a day.  The relief the Fish were looking for was found on the courts against the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sailfish did not drop a single set in their 9-0 victory, and they started off red hot in the afternoon’s doubles matches.  The dynamic duos of Montse Ripoll/Olga Alekseeva, Lina Rubiano/Natalie Aleman, and Katie Livesay/Pamela Artigas dismantled Cardinal opponents to a tune of twenty-four games to three.

Picking up where they left off in doubles play, the Sailfish went on to sweep the singles matches in commanding fashion.  Both Lina Rubiano and Katie Livesay had impressive straight set shut out victories in their matches.  Montse Ripoll (6-1, 6-0), Olga Alekseeva (6-0, 6-1), Krishna Domenech (6-1, 6-3), and Amber Braaten (6-1, 6-0) all won in straight sets to wrap up another impressive victory for the Sailfish women’s tennis squad.

The Sailfish improve their record to 9-5 on the season, and they will be back in action on Thursday afternoon against Malone College.  Be sure to check www.pbasailfish.com for all of the match details and highlights.
