Twice as Nice for Women's Tennis

Written By: Ron Kotouch, PBA Sports Information Graduate Assistant

HILTON HEAD, S.C.-  Yesterday afternoon, the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis squad took a break from the drama and adversity of the close matches they have played thus far in Hilton Head.  The 9-0 drubbing of St. John Fisher College provided the Fish with the pressure relief they needed, and the Fish made it twice as nice on Thursday morning with another 9-0 shutout against Malone College.

In doubles play, Montse Ripoll and Olga Alekseeva continued to establish themselves as a formidable #1 duo.  The two stars crushed Malone’s Lynsey Fuller and Alanna Phillips 8-1 in the #1 doubles match.

Katie Livesay and Pamela Artigas followed that solid performance with an 8-1 victory of their own over Jennifer Peters and DeAnna Wingett of Malone.  For good measure, Krishna Domenech and Amber Braaten closed out doubles play with yet another 8-1 victory to give the Sailfish a 3-0 lead going into singles play.

In singles play, much like yesterday, the Sailfish did not drop a set to the pioneers.  Olga Alekseeva, Lina Rubiano, and Amber Braaten all had dominating straight set shut out victories of pioneer opponents.

Also, in singles play, Montse Ripoll continues to be on fire, as she defeated Alanna Phillips in commanding fashion 6-0, 6-3.  En route to a 9-0 victory, Ripoll’s teammates, Krishna Domenech and Katie Livesay, closed out the match with dominating straight set victories of pioneer opponents.

The Sailfish are now five for five on their spring break trip.  On the season they are 9-5, and they will close out their Hilton Head trip tomorrow morning against  the University of Charleston.  Be sure to check www.pbasailfish.com for all of the match details and highlights.
