KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The formula that the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team has employed at the Rebel Spring Tournament in Kissimmee appears to be working as the Sailfish once again used solid pitching, this time from Heather Laird, and timely hitting including a 4-for-4 performance from Caitlin Bouschet as the Fish came away with a 4-0 victory over Concorida University on Monday afternoon.
The Sailfish are now 18-10 on the season and will play four more games at the Rebel Spring Games.
Laird (5-6) was dominant throughout the team’s contest against Concordia by compiling 11 strikeouts and limiting CU to only three hits.
PBA once again got their scoring started early as they pushed across a run in the first inning as Dani Perrotti came home to score on a fielder’s choice by Chelsea Gravini.
The Sailfish pushed across another run in the third inning as Perrotti once again got things started with a one-out single. A Candace Horton single would follow as would a wild pitch that moved both players into scoring position. Bouschet lined a single up the middle and sent Perrotti home to score.
Abbey Shipman started things in the fourth inning as she led off with a walk and came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Mari Stokes. PBA added in one more run in the seventh inning as Bouschet delivered with a RBI single that scored Perrotti.
Perrotti finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Horton added in a pair of hits in the winning cause as the Sailfish earned 10 hits in the ballgame.
PBA will be back in action on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. when they take on Saint Cloud State University followed by another 11 a.m. meeting this time with LeMoyne University. Both games will be broadcast live on the Sailfish Radio Network.
