KISSIMMEE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team opened up play on Monday morning at the Rebel Spring Games with the Lady Fish earning a 3-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State University (Mich.) at Oren-Brown Park in Kissimmee, Florida. Junior Ashley Jones continued her masterful work of late with a complete game victory as the Sailfish improved to 17-10.

Jones (12-3) dominated from the on-set and only ran into serious trouble in the seventh inning when the Cardinals had their first three runners reach and then stranded a few more as Jones struck out the final batter of the game for her 10th strikeout in the game. Jones limited the Cardinals to only five hits with the only RBI coming from Jillian Peterson.

Palm Beach Atlantic got their scoring started in the first-inning when an unearned run came around to score off of SVSU starter Stacy Kratz as PBA sophomore Caitlin Bouschet drilled an opposite-field single that skipped past the right-fielder and allowed Dani Perrotti to sprint home for the game’s first run.

PBA added in a run in the third inning when Candace Horton connected for a RBI single that brought home Brittany Schneider to push the lead to 2-0. Perrotti drove home Abbey Shipman in the fifth inning for PBA’s last run.

The Sailfish collected seven hits as a team with no one player contributing more than one hit.
