Jones Tosses Three-Hitter as Sailfish Down Flagler College in Game One

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team utilized a three-run third inning on Saturday afternoon in game one of their double-header with Flagler College while tacking on an insurance run late to back the strong right arm of Ashley Jones as the Fish cruised to a 4-1 opening win at Howard Park.
Jones (11-3) once again proved dominant inside the circle for the Sailfish as she struck out nine batters while limiting the Saints to only three hits over seven innings of work.
PBA (15-10) got things going with two outs in the third inning as Mari Stokes took advantage of some sun bearing down on the Saints centerfielder as she was forced to shield her eyes that allowed Stokes the hit. With two outs on the board, junior Chelsea Gravini drilled a single to right-field that sent Stokes racing around for the game’s first run. Caitlin Bouschet followed for the Fish with a double to deep left-centerfield and Gravini came around to score.
Junior Candace Horton would make it three straight run-scoring base-hits as she drove home Bouschet with a sharp single to left-field.
Flagler responded in the top-half of the fourth inning as Kaley King drew a one-out walk followed by the first hit of the game for the Saints with an infield single by Heather Hill. After a popup for the second out of the inning, Sam Boatner stepped in and drilled a RBI single up the middle for a Flagler run.
That would be all the scoring Jones would allow however as three consecutive zeroes would follow on the scoreboard. PBA added in a run in the sixth inning as Chelsea Gravini drew a bases-loaded walk that forced in Abbey Shipman.
Dani Perrotti and Bouschet led the Sailfish offense with both registering two hits each. Hill led FC with two of the team’s total three hits.
