Sailfish Makes Debut in NSCAA Region Top Ten

West Palm Beach, Fla.- As of September 1st, 2007, all Palm Beach Atlantic University athletic teams are now full-members within the NCAA Division II ranks which coincides with each team now being eligible for postseason play as well as being recognized in regional and national rankings.

Large in part to their terrific 4-0 start to the 2007 season, the PBA men’s soccer team, under the direction of head coach Jose Gomez, are now the first team in school history to be recognized in a NCAA regional ranking as they were ranked 10th in the South Regional poll that was released on Tuesday.

PBA has most recently gone through the NCAA provisional process for the past three years before having their final year waived by the NCAA, making the Sailfish a full-participating member beginning this fall.

Having allowed only one goal through their first four games, the Fish continue to pile up wins early in the season.

“The ranking is a nice accomplishment and we have a big test in our next match as we face off against St. Leo, so I hope this only adds to our motivation,” said Gomez after learning of the regional ranking.

PBA opened up their season on August 23rd by traveling to Emmanuel College and defeating them by a score of 3-0 following that up a day later with a 3-0 shutout of St. Andrew Presbyterian University.

In their home opener on Tuesday, August 28th, the Sailfish played host to Florida Tech and were able to defeat the Panthers by a score of 4-1. Finally, over last weekend the Fish traveled to Tigerville, South Carolina for a showdown with North Greenville University where they came out victors by a 7-0 score.

With ten days of rest, PBA hopes to be prepared for their next contest which takes place on Tuesday, September 11th when they travel to St. Leo University for a matchup with the Lions. St. Leo is currently ranked 9th in the South Region with a 1-1-1 early-season record.

Lynn University tops the regional poll with a 4-0 mark followed by Nova Southeastern University who is also 4-0.
