DELRAY BEACH, Fla.- After winning yet another close match the day before against St. Thomas University 5-4, the Sailfish men’s tennis team looked to make it four matches in a row against Flagler College on Saturday afternoon. Despite the awesome atmosphere at the Delray Beach Tennis Club, the Sailfish had their fun squashed by the visiting Saints by a score of 5-1.
The Saints dominated the match from the start, as they took all three doubles matches from the Fish. Flagler followed up doubles play by taking three of four matches in singles play to close out the match.
Junior Krasimir Atanasov was the lone star of the match for the Sailfish, as he continued his solid play and improved his overall match record to 5-3. In the #1 singles match, Atanasov defeated Flagler’s David Catrone in an epic three set battle. Atanasov dominated the first set 6-2, but lost the second set 5-7. In the third set tiebreak, Atanasov showed the resilience of a #1 player and defeated Catrone 6-2, 5-7, 10-7. Atanasov has now won his last 4 singles matches and is establishing himself as one of the region’s best players.
With the loss, the Fish fall to 4-4 on the season. The Sailfish will be back in action on Wednesday, March 4th, as they travel to Orlando, Florida to take on Walsh University at 6:00 pm. Visit www.PbaSailfish.com for all of the highlights and match details.
