ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- Riding the wave of momentum of a 7-2 win over Brandeis University in their last match on Wednesday afternoon, the Palm Beach Atlantic Women’s tennis team looked to make it two wins in a row against Eckerd College on Saturday afternoon.
Coach Chi Ly couldn’t ask for much more from his women’s squad, as the Sailfish did not lose one set of the match on their way to throttling the Triton women by a score of 9-0. Not cooling off from a commanding 7-2 victory over Brandeis University, the Sailfish women continued their recent dominance from the get go against Eckerd College.
Starting with the doubles matches, the Sailfish established an early 3-0 lead with three straight victories from the tandems of Montse Ripoll/Olga Alekseeva, Lina Rubiano/Natalie Aleman, and Katie Livesay/Amber Braaten. The outstanding doubles duos of the Sailfish combined to defeat the Tritons by a score of 24-4.
Building on the momentum of the singles victories, the Sailfish didn’t stop their offensive onslaught in the singles matchups, as they took the next 6 matches to complete the shutout.
Both Lina Rubiano and Natalie Aleman posted straight set 6-0, 6-0 victories for the Sailfish, and Olga Alekseeva, Katie Livesay, Amber Braaten, and Monste Ripoll were able to complete straight set victories of Triton opponents.
Thus far on the season, this performance by the Sailfish has been the most dominating outing of the year, as they improve their record to 3-4 on the season.
