LAKE WORTH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team came away disappointed on Wednesday evening after dropping a tough 3-1 extra innings loss in game one against Nova Southeastern University, the Fish allowed a late-inning comeback by NSU who claimed a 12-8 slugfest game two victory.

After game one featured a pitchers dual, game two action would be nothing of the sort as both teams managed to force the opposition into pressure situations early.

The Fish got things going in the first-inning as Chelsea Gravini connected on her first homerun of the season that sailed well beyond the right-field fence. Caitlin Bouschet came around to score another run in the inning on a passed ball.

After NSU cut the Sailfish lead in half in the second-inning on a RBI single from Dana Bergner, the Fish would be back at it again in their half of the second when Candace Horton led off being hit by a pitch. Horton would move up to second-base on a wild pitch and come in to score on a run-scoring single from Mari Stokes.

NSU tied the ballgame up at three runs apiece however in the third inning as Patty Rivero led off with a walk. Noemi Luciani followed with her second of four singles in the game while both came in to score on a single from Lauren Lopez.

Now back tied again, the Sailfish seemed to give themselves some breathing room in the bottom of the fourth inning as Caitlin Bouschet drilled her first-career grand slam to straight away centerfield to put PBA in the drivers seat at 7-3.

Give the Sharks credit however as they battled back for four runs in the top of the fifth to re-tie the game at 7-7. The big four-run outburst for NSU was highlighted by a two-run homer from Rachel Donachie and a dropped fly-ball in the outfield by PBA that brought home two more runs.

The Sharks weren’t done there however as the sixth inning brought more offense and more bad fortune for the Sailfish. The Sharks batted around in the sixth against PBA reliever Heather Laird (3-3) although of the five runs in the inning only one was earned against Laird who in 1.1 innings of work was tagged for seven hits, six runs (one earned), and one walk while adding in three strikeouts.

Bouschet added in a solo homerun, her second of the game, and fourth of the season to cap the scoring for the Sailfish in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lexi Serradet (7-2) earned the win inside the circle for NSU while posting final numbers of seven innings pitched, nine hits, eight runs (seven earned), five walks, and seven strikeouts. Freshman hurler Chris Donovan earned the starting nod for the Fish and took the no-decision while allowing 10 hits, six runs (five earned) and striking out six.

Bouschet finished with three hits including the two homeruns and five RBI’s while Stokes and Dani Perrotti each added in two hits apiece.

For the Sharks, Luciani had four hits as did Lopez with three RBI’s for the junior NSU second-baseman. Hernandez chipped in with three hits while Britney Lamb and April Donachie each posted a mulit-hit game.

The Sailfish and Sharks will both be back in action this weekend as they will travel across the state to take part in the Eckerd Tournament in Clearwater, Florida. PBA opens up on Friday, February 20th against the University of Tampa followed by another big matchup with Saint Leo University later in the day.
