LAKELAND, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team finished up a tough weekend against Florida Southern College on Saturday afternoon as they dropped their third straight to the talented Moccasins in the second game of a double-header by a final score of 8-2 at Henley Field.
The Sailfish have now dropped four straight after earning their first win of the season last weekend against Rollins College. The victory for the Mocs pushed their early season record to 6-3 while PBA now stands at 1-8.
Sailfish right-hander Taylor McBath (1-1) started off well for the Blue and White as he held the Mocs off the scoreboard in the first inning. FSC pushed across a pair of runs in the second followed by another run in the third inning.
The Fish would cut the lead to 3-2 in their half of the fourth inning as Michael Kutch brought home both Tony Livelsberger and Vasilios Mila.
After a scoreless bottom half of the inning for McBath and the Fish, the 6’7” sophomore ran into trouble in the crucial fifth inning as the Mocs plated five runs to take a commanding lead. McBath finished with the losing decision as he was tagged for eight hits allowed, seven runs (six earned) while walking two and striking out three batters in 4.1 innings pitched.
McBath would be relieved by Dan McIldoon who completed the fifth inning by allowing two hits and one earned run. Freshman left-hander Graham White tallied a scoreless inning in the sixth inning to keep the score in tact.
After their two-run outburst in the fourth inning, that would be all the Sailfish could muster as the Mocs went to reliever Daniel Tillman (1-0) who closed out the win with 3.2 inning of one-hit ball including four strikeouts.
The Mocs were led offensively by a pair of two-run homers including a second-inning bomb from Braxton Chisholm and one from Will Cherry in the big fifth inning run explosion for FSC.
The Sailfish will look to get back on track on Wednesday, February 18th when they host St. Thomas University at 6 p.m. The game is scheduled to be played at Palm Beach Gardens High School.
