MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Extending their season opening winning streak to six games, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team squeaked out another tight victory on Saturday evening as they took on the University of North Carolina-Pembroke in day two of the Barry University Invitational.
Junior Heather Laird (2-0) pitched the first 5.1 innings for the Sailfish and earned the win before giving way to fellow junior Ashley Jones who closed out the game in dominating fashion by striking out the only five batters she faced, all by swinging strikeouts. Laird tallied seven strikeouts while allowing only three hits.
The only run of the ballgame came from a RBI single from junior first-baseman Dani Perrotti who plated Chelsea Gravini in the fourth inning.
PBA has now won all four games they have competed in at the BU Invitational including allowing just one run in the four games. On the flip side, the Sailfish offense has managed just six runs themselves in four games.
The Fish will be back in action on Sunday, February 8th as they take on Columbus State University at 1:15 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. showdown with Nova Southeastern University. The CSU game will take place at Barry University while the matchup against NSU is set to take place in Davie, Florida at the NSU Softball Complex.
Both games will be broadcasted live and podcasted on the Sailfish Radio Network. Pregame coverage is set to take place at 1:00 p.m.
